Partner and Financial Advisor
How do you help clients Invest in Peace of Mind?
I assist clients in alleviating the stress and confusion that often comes with planning for their financial future. By providing clear insights into their finances and the path they are on, I guide them in understanding the necessary steps to achieve their goals. Seeing that you are on the right path financially provides peace of mind.
Why did you choose financial planning as your profession?
During my time in college, I found myself drawn to two main career paths: finance and counseling. I discovered that becoming a financial advisor could effectively combine these interests. Around this time, my wife and I participated in a pre-marital class, which I highly recommend for all couples. In the class, we learned that financial incompatibility is a leading cause of divorce. This inspired me to pursue a career where I could help couples alleviate financial stress in their relationships, ultimately aiming to prevent broken homes.
What types of client relationships do you find most rewarding, and why?
I like working with individuals who ask thoughtful questions and appreciate the planning and advice I offer. I also enjoy educating clients on financial topics and love to see that look in someone's eye when something that previously confused them suddenly "clicks." I believe that our society does a poor job of educating people on financial matters, and I consider it part of my job to ensure that my clients understand the "why" behind the recommendations I provide.
What does a typical workday look like for you at Allegheny?
I spend most of my workdays meeting with or speaking to clients, working on their financial plans, making investment decisions, and staying up-to-date on all the changes that impact my clients.
What are some important things to consider when choosing a financial advisor?
Your financial advisor should be your fiduciary, meaning they must prioritize your best interests. If they aren't looking out for you, then what’s the point of working with them? We stand by our clients during both the high and low points of life, and our discussions often touch on sensitive topics. Therefore, it’s essential to choose someone who listens, is easy to talk to, and truly understands you as a person. Lastly, it’s important to work with someone who operates independently; you don’t want your advisor to be restricted in their recommendations to investments or insurance products from only one company.
How do you like to spend time outside of the office?
I enjoy all sports, but I primarily play golf and ice hockey. I wish I were better at both, but I appreciate the physical and mental challenges they offer. Additionally, I love spending time at our lake, whether I'm fishing or simply relaxing on the water.
What are you a fan of?
I am a huge fan of the Steelers and the Penguins. It’s always enjoyable to take my kids to the stadiums and share those experiences with them. One of my favorite memories is when my kids won the Dilly Bar Dance at PPG Paints Arena during a game.
